This five session interactive Zoom course is presented by Joanne Rossbridge and Kathy Rushton. It aims to develop understandings of some of the grammatical concepts important to learning about language, explore the grammatical features of some quality children’s literature and investigate some of the ways young students can be supported in learning about language.

Overview of sessions: 

Week 1. Spoken and written language - verb groups and clauses

Week 2. Naming and describing - noun groups including adjectival phrases and clauses

Week 3. When? Where? How? - adverbials

Week 4 Persuade me! - connectives / conjunctions, appraisal and modality

Week 5. Bringing it all together - text, paragraph and sentence openers and nominalisation.
